Step into four decades of history through the photographs of Tianyu Wang.The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council invites you to experience Through the Lens of Tianyu Wang: Shaanxi Province in the 1960s–2000s, opening October 1 at The Gallery at 118 Cotton in downtown West Monroe.
An award-winning photographer, author, and journalist, Wang documented the people, places, landscapes, and cultural traditions of Shaanxi Province, China, across a period of extraordinary social, political, and economic change. His photographs offer both an intimate look at everyday life and a powerful historical record of a region in transition.
Visitors are invited to consider the images not only as works of photography, but also as windows into memory, history, and cultural change - and as opportunities for cross-cultural and intergenerational conversation.
Join us for the opening reception on October 1 at The Gallery at 118 Cotton, 118 Cotton Street, West Monroe.
This exhibition is presented in partnership with the ULM Foundation and builds upon the legacy of the Tianyu Wang Endowed Scholarship in Communication, established to support upperclassmen pursuing a degree in Communication at the University of Louisiana Monroe. Proceeds associated with the exhibition will benefit the scholarship and help extend Wang’s legacy through future generations of storytellers and communicators.
The exhibition was originally developed to amplify the impact of the Tianyu Wang Endowed Scholarship and to invite the Monroe/West Monroe community to connect with the people, history, and culture of Shaanxi Province through Wang’s photography.
Admission is free and open to the public.
