About this Event
An Autumnal God’s Eye Workshop of Craft, Elements & Intention
Tuesday 20th October 2026
6:30pm – 9:00pm
FREE – Funded by Derbyshire Mind
Limited spaces – booking essential
As the evenings grow darker, the leaves begin to fall and autumn draws us back towards the warmth of home, we gather for an intimate evening of weaving, reflection and connection with the elements. Threads of Protection is a warming autumnal workshop centred around creating your own God’s Eye - Ojo de Dios - a beautiful woven object associated with prayer, protection, blessing and watchfulness.
Thanks to funding from Derbyshire Mind, this experience is offered completely free of charge. Places are intentionally limited so that we can keep the gathering small, welcoming and intimate, with plenty of time and space for everyone to be supported through the creative process. No previous craft, meditation or spiritual experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Simply come as you are.
The Story of the God’s Eye
The woven form commonly known as the Ojo de Dios - “Eye of God” is particularly associated with the Wixárika (Huichol) people of Mexico, where sacred woven objects known as sikuli carry spiritual and ceremonial significance. The crossing of sticks creates a central eye, with coloured yarn woven outwards in an expanding pattern. Traditionally, these objects are much more than decoration, with meaning connected to prayer, spiritual vision, protection and relationship with the sacred. Today, variations of the God’s Eye are created throughout the world. During this workshop, we will respectfully take inspiration from the woven form while creating something personal to us, weaving our own intentions for protection, prosperity, balance and connection to home into every layer.
Weaving with the Elements
Our evening will be held in the spirit of autumn - warm, slow, earthy and reflective.
We will begin by arriving into the space together through grounding and meditation before connecting with the elemental energies of:
Earth - grounding, stability and home
Air - breath, clarity and perspective
Fire - transformation, courage and warmth
Water - emotion, intuition and flow
As the weaving begins, you will be invited to explore what each element represents within your own life.
What are you ready to protect?
What would you like to welcome into your home?
Where are you seeking greater balance?
What are you ready to release with the falling leaves?
And what would you like to carry with you into the darker months?
Through meditation, journaling, conversation and intentional craft, your God’s Eye will slowly take form, with each colour and each thread becoming part of the story you are weaving. There is no need to be artistic or “good at crafts”. Perfection isn't the intention. This is about slowing down, working with your hands and bringing meaning and presence to the process. We will finish by gathering with our completed pieces for an elemental closing practice, setting our intentions for the months ahead and offering gratitude to the natural world as we move deeper into autumn. You will leave with your own handmade God’s Eye to place somewhere meaningful in your home, carrying the intentions and symbolism you have woven into it. Expect a cosy, warming autumn atmosphere filled with creativity, gentle meditation, elemental connection, reflection and community.
Your Hosts
The evening will be primarily held and facilitated by Jan Muse (Magical Muse Medicine Weaver - https://www.magicalmusemedicineweaver.co.uk/) , who will guide us through the creative process of making our God’s Eyes, exploring the elements and bringing intention into the weaving. Jan will be supported throughout the gathering by Azim and Sam from Moksha Holistic Therapies CIC, helping to hold the space and guide elements of meditation, reflection and connection.
Together, we hope to create an evening that feels welcoming and unhurried, somewhere you can arrive, settle in, make something with your hands and reconnect with yourself, others and the changing season.
