Women and children only. Creative textile workshop celebrating Afghan and Syrian traditions, creating a community blanket together.Join us for a special collaborative textile workshop inspired by Afghan and Syrian traditions of embroidery, weaving, pattern-making and storytelling through fabric.
Together, participants will create a beautiful community blanket made from individual fabric squares. Each woman will design and decorate her own piece using colours, patterns, symbols, words or memories that reflect her culture, family, journey, hopes or identity. The individual pieces will then be stitched together to form one collective artwork, symbolising strength, connection and community.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Afghan embroidery, Syrian textile patterns and handmade craft traditions, this workshop offers a space for creativity, conversation and celebration of women’s stories.
No previous sewing or artistic experience is needed. All materials will be provided, including fabrics, ribbons, embroidery threads, beads and decorative resources.
During the workshop participants will:
Create their own meaningful fabric square
Explore Afghan and Syrian textile traditions and decorative motifs
Share stories, memories and cultural heritage through creativity
Contribute to a collaborative community blanket
Meet other women in a welcoming and supportive environment
Celebrate the project’s journey and the connections built together
The finished blanket will become a lasting symbol of friendship, resilience and belonging, showcasing the diverse experiences and creativity of the women who took part in the programme.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the session.
