It’s opening night of a brand-new mystery play, but before the killer can be revealed, the director turns up dead onstage, mid-performance, in front of everyone. Suddenly the theater is a crime scene, the cast is full of suspects, and the audience isn’t entirely off the hook either. This Murder Was Staged is a sharp, fast-moving backstage comedy that keeps you guessing right up until it doesn’t, performed by RPAC’s Actors Studio, an ensemble of middle and high school students who thrive on exactly this kind of precise, character-driven work. If you like your comedy with a body count, this one’s for you.
