Debbie and I did the pre-run on OMS’s “Views of Mount St. Helens & Soak in Carson Hot Springs Daylight Tour” today.
May I be Frank with you? “I never, ever want to drive that road again!” ?
First off — the smoke. It was very smoky, visibility from the viewpoints was terrible, and the air quality was bad.
And don’t even get Debbie started on the condition of the road! There are some pretty rough sections, and in our opinion, one bad section of road is not worth putting everyone through the whole trip.
So, here’s the deal…
We wanted to get this information out to everyone as soon as possible so you have time to make other plans or cancel your overnight reservations if you no longer want to go.
This event is CANCELLED.
That means we will not be doing the planned drive through the Mount St. Helens area and all the way to Carson, WA. The smoke, poor visibility, air quality, and road conditions just don't make it worthwhile or enjoyable.
I’m sorry, but better luck next time!
BUT, For those who still want go soak and stay the night.
Debbie and I are still going to Carson for two nights, and the air quality is much better down by the river.
For those of you who are staying overnight, here’s the new plan:
Meet: 2:30 PM Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E 5th St, Vancouver, WA
Depart: 3:00 PM
From Pearson Air Museum, head east on Hwy 14 to Carson Hot Springs.
After checking in and getting settled, we’ll soak for a while.
Everyone is welcome to come over and hang out in our room afterward, Debbie will have a Charcuterie Board of goodies, we'll have some wine out too.
We’ll spend the evening relaxing and hanging out, and this will give everyone a chance to get together and make plans for Sunday’s Tour that still on.
We’re really sorry about having to cancel the driving portion. We were looking forward to it too, but after actually driving the route, we just don’t feel it’s worth putting everyone through it.
