The Yards look forward to performing at Bird N.E.S.T. KC (above The Ship) on Friday, December 4! Lots of exciting First Friday activities to go along with two long sets of great live music. Hope to see you there! Show starts at 7:00pm.
The Yards are a Lawrence, Kansas-based soul funk fusion instrumental quartet known for their superb musicianship, electric onstage interplay, and uniquely catchy compositions. Their current lineup features founding members Bradford Hoopes on keyboards and Kelly White on drums, as well as long-time member Michael Hamm on guitar and Mario Vlasic on bass. Since their inception in November of 2000, The Yards have focused primarily on writing and performing original music, occasionally adding a carefully selected cover to acknowledge some of their greatest influences: The Meters, Medeski Martin & Wood, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and many more.
In addition to maintaining an active live performance schedule, The Yards have released three full-length studio albums (The Yards in 2000, Wit in 2006, Crooked Road Sessions in 2025), have contributed to two compilation albums (The Sound of Danger in 2004, Boogaloo to Jack McDuff in 2005), and have produced several self-released live albums. The Yards have opened for such nationally known acts as John Scofield, Toots and the Maytals, and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.
