About this Event
Join local historian, Andrew Nablo, and dive into the remarkable story of the Provincial Lunatic Asylum and the people who passed throught its doors. This presentation will explore the architect behind the building, John George Howard, the purpose of the asylum, and how the institution, which intended to represent a more humane approach to mental illness and accessibility, became shrounded by controversy and scandal?
This is not simply an architectural story, it is a story about Victorian Toronto and the changing definition of what it meant to be "normal."
An exciting announcement will also be unveiled at the start of the evening so be sure to register early as spots are strictly limited!
Remarks will begin promptly at 7pm and pre-registration is required.
