The Womb Remembers

The Womb Remembers: Sacred Voice and Grief is a poetry writing workshop and communal gathering for mothers to honor memory, voice, and the stories the body carries.

This offering creates a nurturing and emotionally grounded space where mothers can explore grief, reflection, and self-reclamation through guided writing, spoken word, and collective witnessing. It is an invitation to listen inward to the wisdom of the body, the memory of the womb, and the voices that have too often been held in silence.

This gathering is held intentionally within the legacy of the Black Panther Party.

In Oakland, the Black Panther Party was not only a movement of political resistance it was also a movement of care. Through free health clinics, food programs, community survival initiatives, and the leadership of powerful Black women, the Party understood that protecting life also meant nourishing it. They created spaces where families could be supported, bodies could be cared for, and future generations could be held with dignity.

To gather mothers in connection with the legacy of the Black Panther Party is to honor that lineage of protection, collective healing, and community love. It recognizes that the womb, too, is a site of revolution, holding grief, memory, creation, and survival all at once.

The Womb Remembers bridges past and present. It honors the ancestors who organized, nurtured, and protected this community, while creating space for mothers today to reclaim their stories, witness their grief, and return to themselves through sacred expression.

Through spoken word and communal reflection, this is a space where:
