The Winter ApothecaryTraditional Herbalism, Home Remedies & Seasonal Wellness
Saturday, November 14 | 2–4 PM

There is more to winter wellness than elderberry syrup and vitamin D.
Long before we had shelves full of supplements and over-the-counter remedies, people relied on the knowledge passed down through generations. They knew which herbs to gather, what to keep in their cupboards, how to prepare traditional remedies, and how to nourish their families through the colder months.
It's time to bring some of that knowledge back into our homes.
Join Julie, folk herbalist and owner of Wicklanders, for an afternoon exploring the art of building your own winter apothecary.
We'll go beyond individual herbs and recipes to talk about how we can care for ourselves through the winter months using traditional herbal preparations, nourishing foods, and everyday practices that support our bodies.
Building Your Winter Apothecary: Which herbs and preparations are worth keeping on hand, how to store them, and how to begin building a practical collection of home remedies.
Beyond Elderberry: Exploring traditional winter herbs, including wild cherry bark, thyme, ginger, rosehips, mullein, and more.
Food as Medicine: The importance of nourishment, warming foods, broths, garlic, onions, and everyday kitchen ingredients during cold and flu season.
Traditional Herbal Preparations: Understanding the differences between teas, infusions, decoctions, syrups, tinctures, and other preparations—and when each might be appropriate.
Herbal Blending: Learning how to thoughtfully combine herbs rather than relying on a single ingredient for every concern.
And yes, we'll be tasting things!
Throughout the afternoon, we'll sample traditional preparations, including wild cherry bark syrup, several herbal teas, and other seasonal remedies. We'll smell, taste, discuss, and work directly with the plants we're learning about.
This isn't simply a class about making one product. It's about understanding the herbs, learning the traditions behind their use, and developing the confidence to begin creating your own winter apothecary at home.
You don't need a garden, an extensive collection of herbs, or any previous herbalism experience. Just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
