The Walking Body is a live, seated runway program at the International Museum of Surgical Science that treats walking as a study in how the body ages, adapts, and carries experience. Presented by MM Productions, the event invites audiences to observe posture, gait, balance, and breath as records of lives that have carried pain, anger, grief, and a hard-won acceptance of the body as it is now.
Models of different ages and body types move through walks drawn from somatic practice, wearing pared-back looks that sit between clothing and care, with details that read as support, shielding and restraint rather than ornament. The evening unfolds in segments that move from tension and pain, through anger, toward release and acceptance, grounded in the lived experiences of physical and psychological trauma. Each segment opens with a short spoken introduction that ties the runway back to the museum and to how we look at another person’s pain. Together they shape an intimate, reflective atmosphere, a quiet way to sit with the body in the present in that hushed, sculpture-lined hall.
Maxine Black is a Chicago-based entrepreneur and former model with interests spanning fashion, technology, and experiential event production. She focuses on developing elevated concepts and platforms that merge creative direction with emerging tech to shape how audiences engage with style and art.
MM Productions is a Chicago-based fashion production studio that turns runway shows into direct opportunities for independent designers to sell their work. Each event is designed to move looks from runway to wardrobe, allowing the artists behind the collections to benefit from their creations. Its mission is to help establish Chicago as a globally recognized arts destination by building a visible, viable fashion economy centered on the city’s creative community.
