Stories, lessons, and hard-earned wisdom from people building beyond the ordinary.
About this Event

Most stories are told after they have been cleaned up.

The title, company, promotion, public win, the thing people can point to and call success, but that is rarely the real story.

The real story is usually less polished, more complicated, and more human. The decision that did not make sense at the time. The door that opened because of one relationship. The risk nobody understood. The failure that became a turning point. The identity shift that had to happen before the opportunity could arrive.

The Unordinary is a monthly live conversation series for people who are building beyond the ordinary. Manpreet Kaur is an educator, author, literacy innovator and founder of The Learners Pathway, a literacy and leadership academy in Edmonton serving students through writing, reading, communication and leadership programs. With a Master's in English Literature from the University of Leeds, she has spent years studying how children learn language — and how that language shapes how they think, express themselves and show up in the world. She challenges the usual tutoring model of helping students finish assignments, and instead builds education that makes children less dependent on adults, and on AI, to think for them. She is the creator of the Literacy and Independent Learning System, author of seven literacy and phonics books and the poetry collection Jar of Reflection. Her story started twice with one student.

In 2017, on a train to Delhi, a simple question — what do you truly want to do? — led her to resign that same day and start teaching full-time. Years later, after immigrating to Canada, she rebuilt The Learners Pathway again, starting with a single student in an unfinished basement. That work has now impacted nearly 400 children across India and North America.

On Wednesday, November 25, I'm sitting down with her at The Bell in Scona to get the real story. Here's what you'll hear: - What it actually takes to leave certainty behind and start with what you have - How she rebuilt from zero a second time, in a new country - Why a meaningful life begins when you are honest about what you truly want, and persistent enough to make it real. Then the floor is yours. Ask her anything.

Each month, Lindsey Machona sits down with a featured guest who has built an uncommon path in business, career, creativity, community, leadership, or life. Not to extract a highlight reel or to perform inspiration, but to ask what it really took.

The story beneath the bio. The lessons behind the success. The hard-earned wisdom people usually only share in private rooms.

This is not motivational speaking. It is not a coach selling a course from the stage. It is not a room full of strangers trying to pitch each other. It is not empty networking, vague advice, or a five-step formula pretending to be truth.

It is one real conversation with someone who has built beyond the expected path, followed by audience Q&A, curated connection, and space for better conversations with people who are also building something meaningful.

Come for the story. Stay for the room. Leave with something you can actually carry forward.

THE EXPERIENCE

The Unordinary is for people who are building beyond the ordinary.

Founders, professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, community builders, leaders, emerging leaders, career changers, operators, visionaries, and anyone creating a life, body of work, business, or path that does not fit the expected script.

You do not need a certain title, income level, industry, or public platform to belong here.

This room is for the curious, the ambitious, the thoughtful, the brave, and the becoming.

People who want better conversations. People who want to meet others who are building, questioning, growing, risking, creating, and refusing to sleepwalk through an ordinary life.

Whether you are building a company, a career, a community, a creative body of work, a new identity, or a second act, you are welcome here.

Curiosity is the only entry requirement.

WHO THIS IS NOT FOR

The Unordinary is not for people looking for a surface-level networking event where everyone collects names, exchanges business cards, and leaves unchanged.

It is not for people who want polished success stories without the truth underneath them.

It is not for people who are only interested in status, titles, or being seen in the room, but not willing to be present in the conversation.

This is not the room for anyone looking for quick hacks, empty motivation, or a shortcut to success.

It is also not for people who come to perform importance, dominate conversations, pitch aggressively, or treat other attendees like leads instead of humans.

The Unordinary is for people who are willing to listen deeply, ask better questions, share with honesty, and respect the stories in the room.

You do not have to have everything figured out.

You do not have to be at the top of your field.

You do not have to be loud, polished, or already successful.

But you do have to come with curiosity, openness, and respect.

This room is not built for spectators.

It is built for people willing to be moved, challenged, connected, and reminded that ordinary was never the only option.
