The Reservoir Cinema - Rydges Hotel Central, Surry Hills, Sydney | MA15+Türkiye | 90mins | 2025 | Dir: Can Evrenol | Australian Premiere
New parents, Ibrahim (Alper Kul) and Zehra (Algi Eke), argue over the purchase of a garish, coffee table, but the situation is nothing compared to the horror that lies ahead.
This isn’t just darkly funny; this is Vantablack comedy. Shifting the original Spanish perspective to a Turkish gaze, the acclaimed director of BASKIN and SAYARA (DNFF – 2024) takes the domestic bliss bull by the horns and wrestles it to the ground in spectacular fashion. A remake that is both a genuine tribute to Caye Casas’ uncompromising vision and a testament to Can Evrenol’s own distinctive cinematic voice. If you’re unfamiliar, trust us when we say, you’ve never experienced anything like this. For those already scarred by this caustic tale of dread, Evrenol will rub fresh salt in the wound, and you’ll wince in masochistic pleasure.
Don’t miss not only the wickedest comedy of the year, but one of the best movies of the year, period.
