It’s back, baby.
The Triple Dip: The Charlotte Region’s most prestigious, least organized cycling event returns March 27, 2027 for another year of questionable route choices, bad decisions, inappropriate athletic confidence, and nutrition strategies that would make a Garmin spontaneously reboot.
If you’ve been before, you already know what’s up.
If you haven’t, here’s the deal:
Every spring we gather in Downtown Fort Mill, dress like athletes, briefly behave like athletes, and then spend the next several hours providing overwhelming evidence that we are not athletes.
The Triple Dip is equal parts bike ride, race, social experiment, traveling circus, and excuse to start drinking at an hour normally reserved for pancakes.
The miles are free.
The memories are blurry.
And somehow someone always ends up with a hot dog in the wrong hole.
THE MORNING
We’ll meet Downtown Fort Mill because that’s where we’ve always met, and changing anything at this point would create mass confusion.
Hell, Dicky will probably go to the wrong Hobo’s anyway.
Wheels roll at 9:00 AM sharp.
Which means:
8:00 if you want parking-lot breakfast burritos.
8:30 if you’re a functional adult.
8:57 if you want 60 people calling you an asshole while you unload your bike.
Sign your waiver. Get your wristband. Pretend to stretch.
No waiver = no wristband = no ride = no hot dog = go fuck yourself.
You can sign it ahead of time and make everyone’s life easier.
Or you can show up Saturday morning, act completely surprised that there’s a waiver, and once again fuck up the hot dog count.
Your call, accountabilitbro.
THE ROUTE
Same beloved disaster.
Pavement.
Dirt.
Greenway.
Trails.
Questionable connectors.
And just enough mild trespassing to make you wonder whether Strava data is admissible in court.
Some of the “trail connectors” washed out in the hurricane.
Have we fixed them?
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
No.
You might carry your bike.
You might get wet.
You might fall in something.
You might briefly wonder why grown adults planned an event this way.
Congratulations. You’re doing it right.
And yes, there are race stages.
Six of them.
You can race all six. Race one. Race none.
Frankly, some of the best Triple Dip performances happen when absolutely nobody is racing anything.
LUNCH
Halfway through, we’ll stop for lunch at the official refueling station for Champions of Mediocrity™.
Hot dogs are not mandatory.
They are, however, free.
Nothing says peak cycling performance quite like 40 miles of questionable pacing followed by mustard on Lycra.
AFTER PARTY
Of course there’s an after party.
I haven’t actually locked that down yet, but I assume The Print Shop will take us back because apparently they have learned absolutely nothing.
There will be beers.
There will be stories.
There will be people passionately explaining why they “totally would have won that stage” if not for tires, gearing, traffic, their knee, the sun, Mercury being in retrograde, or whatever other bullshit they come up with.
And eventually someone will say:
“We should probably go home.”
Ignore that person.
They have Sunday morning to be responsible.
So grab your bike, grab your buddies, and scrape together whatever dignity survived the winter.
The Triple Dip returns March 27, 2027.
Come ride bikes.
Come race.
Come not race.
Come eat hot dogs.
Come make Sunday morning your problem.
