“The Traveler’s Window, II”
An exhibition by Gloria Taylor-Williams

This body of works is inspired by memories and photographs from my travels and my personal art journal. They are reflections from the simplest pleasures in everyday life, and perhaps the adventurous spirit that exists in each of us. Both nature and architecture and people are my muses.
Waterways have a feeling of calmness and relation. It’s a place to relax like the fisherman that receives his reward through persistence and patience. In “The Gaze” something or someone gains her interest. To capture one’s expression can be very challenging. In “Sometimes We Meet Here”, depicts a flock of birds and other life forms on a sunny day. While nature scenes are maybe my favorite subject, I also find historical structures to be very interesting. There are many lighthouses in North Carolina. Many of them are surrounded by tall looming pines and lush foliage. These paintings and photos are from my photo journal with some creative twists.
This work is my window to explore ways to continue to fuel my imagination. Creating art for me is like holding a piece of candy in my hand; it is the anticipation of flavor as I unwrap the sweet treat. I want people to feel that same anticipation while viewing one work of art to the next.
I hope you, as the viewer, can see yourself in unimagined ways and seek your own adventurous inner spirit. Perhaps one of my artworks will spark a memory as you look out your window.
**Artist Biography**
Gloria grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a young girl, she visited the Indianapolis Museum of Art with her family. An oil painting of bright, colorful flowers captured her interest, she never forgot that scent of oil on canvas. For the next several years, that museum visit led her to practice drawing small comic clipart characters. Years later, those memories inspired her to attend a drawing class at Herron University in Indianapolis.
Now, living in North Carolina, she mostly paints landscapes, stills and figurative themes of complex structures and textures. "I don't want to limit myself to oil painting or one specific subject. Creating through creativity and imagination is more interesting to me."
