A ciência continua a investigar o assunto.
Nós preferimos ouvir.

THE TELESCOPES

For centuries, humanity has devoted itself to the noble business of seeing further. We invented lenses, built observatories and pointed enormous instruments at the sky, hoping to discover what might be hiding beyond the last star. Somewhere along the way, we overlooked a small possibility: perhaps certain things can only be found with our eyes closed.
The Telescopes seem to have understood this long ago. Their music travels through places where noise acquires shape, melodies appear like memories of things that never happened, and silence, whenever it turns up, seems to be concealing something. Violeta Azevedo knows other routes into the same unknown. With flute, voice and electronics, she creates small sonic ecosystems where frequencies meet, multiply and occasionally stop obeying the laws assigned to them.
Two different ways of exploring the invisible. One stretches the horizon until it disappears. The other discovers entire universes inside a column of air.
Science is still looking into the matter.
We would rather listen.

THE TELESCOPES
The Telescopes have spent years investigating what happens when music stops obeying the rules. The results have been encouraging. Several genres have filed complaints. Somewhere between shoegaze, noise and psychedelia, guitars become weather systems, rhythms lose track of time, and melodies emerge from the distortion like flowers growing through the ruins of a forgotten civilisation. Beneath it all, a strange tenderness survives. The Telescopes aren't particularly interested in finding the correct sound. They're far too busy discovering what lies beyond it.
VIOLETA AZEVEDO
Violeta Azevedo has discovered that a flute is not so much a musical instrument as a small administrative error in the laws of physics. With breath, voice and electronics, she persuades a perfectly respectable column of air to produce sounds it has absolutely no qualifications to make. Notes multiply without permission. Frequencies enter into complicated relationships. Entire landscapes appear where, moments earlier, there was only a woman holding a flute. And somehow, amid this magnificent breach of protocol, there is extraordinary beauty: melodies as delicate as the memory of a place you've never visited. The laws of physics have been notified. They have declined to comment.
Perhaps we do not need to see further. Perhaps we simply need to learn to hear what has been in front of us all along.
