Playing some of Basie’s biggest hits from the 1930s to 1960s including classic Joe Williams, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald chart toppers. This Swiss Swank Account performance will focus primarily on two of Count Basie’s most stellar recordings; The Atomic Mr. Basie and everyone’s favorite Ella and Basie!
Special guests Adam Larrabee (guitar), Daniel Clarke (piano), Andy Randazzo (bass), Brian Caputo (drums); saxophones: John Winn, John Lilley, Charles Owens, Jason Scott, J.C. Kuhl; trumpets: John D’earth, Taylor Barnet, Sam Koff and Bob Miller; trombones: Pete Anderson, Toby Whitaker, and Isaac Murrel.
The Atomic Mr. Basie (1957 – RouleTe Records) “The 11 tunes that comprised the original E=MC2, beTer known today as The Atomic Basie, were all composed and arranged by Neal He`i. The impact that this first RouleTe album by Basie had was as explosive as the music itself. Although Eddie Lockjaw Davis would leave the band shortly therea`er, this edicon of the band would come to be called The Second Testament, the first having been the one with Lester Young, Herschel Evans, Dicky Wells et al.” – Michael Cuscuna, album liner notes
Ella and Basie! Arrangements by Quincy Jones (1963, Verve Records) "Ella is the swing swinger"! "Basie is the swing band in jazz"! Any self-respeccng recording producer given those two premises would logically say, "fine, let's record the two of them together.” But, such is the illogic of the music business that these two artists have never made an album together." - Norman Granz, album liner notes
