About this Event
We have great pleasure in inviting you to attend the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre Annual Lecture which will take place on Thursday 23 April 2026 from 6pm to 9pm.
The annual lecture at De Montfort University is held each year in the week of National Stephen Lawrence Day and this year’s theme will be “From Awareness to Action: Challenging Far-Right Narratives in Everyday Life”.
The keynote will be delivered by Professor Anoop Nayak, Professor of Social and Cultural Geography at the University of Newcastle, and this will be followed by a discussion with a panel consisting of academics who research racism or carry out anti-racist work at grass roots level. This will be chaired by our Legacy In Action Senior Research Fellow Dr Fatima Rajina.
The keynote and panel discussion will look at how we can challenge the continuing rise of the far right in the UK.
We are keen that the event can influence thoughts and actions in our fractured society and help the audience feel they can challenge far right narratives and play a part in helping strengthen our community.
Tickets for the event are FREE but you must register and book.
We look forward to welcoming you to what we hope will be an inspirational evening.
Ticket sales will close 1 hour before the event starts.
