About this Event
2026 is a year where Planners in the public sector have been anticipating and confronting a storm of change in local and strategic planning legislation, structures and governance.
Planners in the private sector are similarly challenged by grappling with the huge scope and depth of new policies, procedures- trying to take advantage of the opportunities whilst avoiding the pitfalls this change might present.
This event will give ProCon Members a chance to engage in a hopefully supportive discussion to hear how senior local and national planners are managing:
- The changing national picture (new National Planning Policy Framework, Planning and Infrastructure Act and associated Guidance and enabling legislation)
- The new Spatial Development Strategy responsibility and ‘30 Month’ Local Plan system
- Finalising their current Local Plans in the context of the Government’s looming deadlines
The event will comprise some short introductions to the above themes followed by a Question Time session with the Panel made up of:
- Grant Butterworth – Head of Planning, Leicester City Council
- Chris May – Partner – Planning and Environmental, Freeths
- Sam Stafford – MD, Land, Planning and Development Federation
- Karen Shaw – Chair, Planning Officers Society and Head of Planning, Strategy and Geographic Information, Nottingham City Council
