About this Event
BCSA in cooperation with the Czech embassy London would like to invite you to a talk by Dr. Martin Brown The Spy Whom We Love which is based on the book The Bondian Cold War - The Transnational Legacy of a Cultural Icon (Routledge, 2024, ISBN 9780367607654).
Join us as we explore James Bond, the world’s most famous spy, whose adventures captured the imagination of a Cold War world. This talk looks at how Bond’s stories reflected — and sometimes rewrote — the politics, tensions, and style of the era. From novels and films to video games and comics, Bond has become a global cultural phenomenon. We’ll uncover how his legacy goes beyond espionage, touching on gender, culture, and the lasting influence of a truly iconic spy.
Dr Martin Brown is Professor of International History at Richmond American University London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (F.R.Hist.S.), and a member of the New Diplomatic History Network and Chatham House. From 2018-2019 he was Lead Researcher at the Centre of Excellence in Intercultural Studies at the University of Tallinn, Estonia. He is particularly interested in, and has written about, the Sudeten German conflict, Slovakia, as well as Czechoslovak-British Relations 1939-1945.
