About this Event

IAS Residential Fellow Professor Sergey Gavrilyuk delivers a seminar on their research -

The aim of my talk is to describe the solitary wave of largest amplitude in the dispersive shock appearing in the solution of Riemann problem for dispersive equations describing nonlinear long dispersive waves, with particular emphasis on the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation and the Serre-Green-Naghdi equations. For the Korteweg-de Vries equation, this problem is well understood. For instance, when the amplitude of the initial jump is one, the amplitude of the leading solitary wave is two. In contrast, the corresponding problem for non-integrable equations remains open. Our approach is based on analysing the solitary-wave limit of the associated Whitham modulation equations.

Arrivals from 11:45 am for a 12:00 noon start. For those joining in-person, lunch will be served after the seminar from 1:00pm.

International House can be found here on the campus map.

If these in-person tickets have sold out, you can still join online by registering for the Teams webinar.
