About this Event
Calling all creatives! Join us for a collaborative design charrette exploring how the built environment can foster connection, creativity, and belonging for LGBTQIA+ community members and anyone seeking community in Charlotte.
Charettes are a collaborative planning and design process often used in architecture, urban design, and community planning to involve residents, business owners, and other stakeholders in the design process. Hosted by the Queer Design Collaborative and AIA Charlotte, this series of workshops brings students and professionals together to discuss the real challenges in the public realm and the design opportunities to create solutions.

Choose from a selection of sites across the city that are ripe for intervention, or make the case for a site of your own choosing. This charrette builds on an earlier session with UNC Charlotte design students, bringing together emerging ideas and professional perspectives to further develop the conversation.
Bring your ideas, experiences, and unique perspective to the table. Bring your favorite sketching materials, share what’s on your mind, and help shape a collective vision for more inclusive, community-centered spaces throughout Charlotte.
Together, the two charrettes will culminate in a public exhibition in mid-November, showcasing the ideas, conversations, and collective vision developed throughout the process.
