🔊 **The Sounds We Live With – A Material Karaoke of Everyday Rhythms**The sounds of materials, objects, spaces, and movements shape how we experience everyday life, remember places, and make sense of our surroundings. From washing dishes and rotating fans to creaking doors and the preparation of a meal, familiar sounds carry personal and cultural associations, forming the rhythms of our daily lives.
In this two-day workshop led by artist **Lisa Premke, Officine Gặp, and artist Hoàng Vũ**, participants will explore how listening can become a way of connecting with our surroundings, bringing familiar sounds into focus and discovering new relationships between everyday rhythms, materials, and places.
🎧 **STRUCTURE OF THE WORKSHOP**
**Day 1 | Listening & Soundwalking**
Before the workshop, participants will be invited to choose an intimate, familiar sound from their everyday lives, one with a recognisable rhythm or pattern. It could be dripping water, sewing, cleaning, or any sound they have heard repeatedly in their personal environment.
They can bring a recording of the sound or reproduce it live using an object or material. Together, we will listen to these sounds and explore their rhythm, pitch, and structure. Through simple physical exercises, participants will experiment with recreating the sounds using their hands, gestures, or objects available in the room.
In the second part of the day, we will take a sound walk through District 5, learning to attune ourselves to our surroundings and to the rhythms, patterns, and activities that shape the neighbourhood's everyday soundscape.
**Day 2 | Listening, Recording & Material Karaoke**
On the second day, we will engage more closely with the different sonic patterns and rhythms of the neighbourhood, considering their place within the wider soundscape.
At selected locations, we will pause to focus on particular sounds and the activities or materials producing them. Using microphones and portable karaoke speakers, we will ‘interview’ these sound-makers, capturing and amplifying their sounds.
By bringing different sounds into focus and playing them together, participants will experiment with live-composing an improvised karaoke from the everyday rhythms of the neighbourhood.

🕑 **Time:**
- Day 1: 14:00–18:00
- Day 2: 14:00–18:00, followed by a dinner together in District 5.
📌 **Location:** District 5, Ho Chi Minh City. The exact meeting location will be shared with confirmed participants.

💬 **Language:** The workshop will be conducted primarily in English, with Vietnamese-language support available when needed.

🌱 **WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?**
The workshop is open to adults (18+) from all backgrounds. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
It welcomes anyone curious about sound perception, everyday rhythms, neighbourhood exploration, sonic heritage, and different ways of listening.
🎒 **WHAT TO BRING?**
- A recording of a familiar sound on your phone, or the object/material that produces that sound.
- One or more objects and/or materials that you can use to reproduce, explore, and experiment with sounds.
- Headphones (optional).
