About this Event
Three trombones stand at the front of The Slide SyndiKCate, a band that mixes its love for NOLA with rock, soul, fusion, pop, and jazz. When Rock Island Bridge put the band on a free show at American Royal Hall this June, it promised "a three-trombone front line you can feel in your chest."
Trombonist Chacko Finn told VoyageKC in July that he started The Slide SyndiKCate as a new project, alongside his work with Back Alley Brass Band, GEKKO, Crossroads Sound, and Twice on Sunday. Finn studied music education at the UMKC Conservatory, recorded on the Marcus Lewis Big Band's hip-hop jazz album Brass and Boujee, which he says hit No. 5 on the iTunes Jazz Charts, and was invited to play lead trombone with the Kansas City Latin Jazz Orchestra.
The band played 90.9 The Bridge's Early Show at Boulevard Tours & Rec Center in October 2025. On March 13, 2026, it put three tracks on Bandcamp: its take on Herbie Hancock's "Blindman, Blindman," an original called "Thunderhips," and "Li'l Liza Jane."
The band bills its "Li'l Liza Jane" as "Kansas City meets New Orleans," and the lyrics it posted set the song on 18th Street and Vine.
