The HistoryNestled in the beautiful Welsh countryside near Abergavenny, the Skirrid Mountain Inn is reputed to be one of the oldest and most haunted public houses in Wales, with a history said to stretch back over 900 years.
Steeped in dark history, mystery and centuries-old legends, the inn is believed to have once served as a courthouse, where criminals were tried and sentenced to death. According to local folklore, as many as 182 people were executed within the building, with hangings reportedly taking place from a beam above the infamous staircase.
The ancient walls, original wooden beams and winding staircases are a haunting reminder of the building’s turbulent past. Over the centuries, the Skirrid Mountain Inn has become one of the most talked-about paranormal locations in Wales.
The Paranormal Activity
With such a dark and chilling reputation, it is hardly surprising that the Skirrid Mountain Inn is said to be home to numerous restless spirits.
One of its most famous alleged residents is Fanny Price, a former landlady whose spirit is believed to still wander the building long after her death.
The infamous staircase is considered one of the most active areas of the inn, with visitors reporting unexplained footsteps, sudden drops in temperature, shadowy figures and the unsettling sensation of being watched.
Some have claimed to experience an invisible presence brushing past them, while others have reported strange noises, mysterious movements and feelings of unease in the very areas where prisoners were supposedly executed.
With centuries of unexplained stories and paranormal encounters surrounding this legendary building, could the spirits of those who once walked its corridors still remain?
Join us for an unforgettable evening of ghost hunting at the Skirrid Mountain Inn and discover for yourself what may be lurking within its ancient walls.
