Rattle the bones and pour the rum. The Skeleton Keys are returning to Pele Utu.Formerly known as The Heebie Jeebies, this four-piece prowls through surf, modal jazz, originals, and improvisation, with guitar and tenor sax trading solos while the rhythm section keeps the whole strange contraption shambling forward.
This isn’t three minutes, chorus, chorus, goodnight.
The Skeleton Keys stretch things out. Songs wander down dark alleys. Guitar and sax start conversations neither one intends to finish. Surf twang crashes into smoky jazz, and somewhere along the way it all begins sounding suspiciously appropriate beneath a room full of tikis.
Grab a Mai Tai, Zombie, Jet Pilot, Navy Grog, or whatever tropical medicine the evening requires, find yourself a seat, and settle in.
