About this Event
For years, vulnerability management was built for a world where defenders had time.
Time to discover a vulnerability.
Time to evaluate it.
Time to prioritize it.
Time to remediate it.
That window is shrinking.
The 2026 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report found that vulnerability exploitation became the most common initial access vector for breaches, accounting for 31%, while credential abuse fell to 13%. Verizon also reported that only 26% of critical vulnerabilities in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog were fully remediated in 2025, while median full resolution time increased to 43 days. That creates a difficult question for defenders:
What happens when attackers can move faster than the processes we built to stop them?
On Wednesday, November 11, DEFCON Acadiana welcomes Charles Piccione, Deputy CISO and Director of Security Engineering at Doubtless, for:
The Shrinking Window: Vulnerability Management at Machine Speed
Charles will explore how vulnerability management must evolve as AI and automation accelerate vulnerability discovery, exploitation, and attack activity.
The conversation will focus on what it means to discover, prioritize, contain, and remediate meaningful risk when traditional vulnerability management cycles may no longer move quickly enough.
Meet Charles Piccione
Charles Piccione is Deputy CISO and Director of Security Engineering at Doubtless, a global pet care and insurance business operating across 10 markets.
His background spans security engineering, architecture, incident response, cloud security, vulnerability management, security transformation, mergers and acquisitions, threat detection and response, identity, application security, and executive cyber risk leadership.
His cybersecurity roots are here in Acadiana, where he previously led cybersecurity at Lafayette-based Techneaux Technology Services before moving into larger enterprise security leadership roles.
Charles focuses on translating complex technical risk into practical security programs that operate at enterprise scale.
What to Expect
This will be a relaxed DEFCON Acadiana conversation built around practical cybersecurity realities.
Charles will explore how vulnerability management is changing as the gap between discovery and exploitation becomes smaller, including the role of automation, prioritization, threat intelligence, containment, remediation, and AI.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions, share perspectives, and connect with cybersecurity professionals from across the Acadiana community.
