What shape does a feeling take?
Can emotion become color, texture, movement, light—or something that has never been named before?
15 artists explore that question in The Shape of Feeling, an exhibition inspired by the wisdom of the living body.
As author, scholar and teacher Reginald Ray writes:
“Sensation brings us into intimate contact with the world around us; intuition opens us to our context in an instantaneous, non-thinking way; feeling reveals our deep connections with others—human, animal, and vegetal. These functions are immediate, often subtle, and largely non-conceptual; and they are essentially somatic, experienced in and through the body.”
—Reginald Ray, Touching Enlightenment: Finding Realization in the Body
Rather than illustrating ideas, these local artists have listened to sensation, intuition, and emotion, allowing their work to emerge from embodied experience.
We invite you to come experience the many ways feelings can take form.
