In 1872, the United States did something pretty remarkable. It set aside Yellowstone as a public park, protecting its incredible landscapes and natural wonders for the enjoyment of the people. That idea eventually grew into America’s National Park System, and in 1916 the National Park Service was created to help preserve these special places while keeping them available for future generations.
Today, America’s national parks include some of the most spectacular places on Earth: Yellowstone. Yosemite. Grand Canyon. Zion. Great Smoky Mountains. Everglades. Glacier. 🇺🇸🌲🏔️
There’s just one small problem…
Sanford doesn’t have one. 😂
In fact, the closest actual National Park to us is Biscayne National Park in South Florida, roughly 240–250 miles away by road.
That seems like a little much for a Monday night bike ride.
So we’re making do with what we’ve got.
Welcome to the…
🏕️🌲 SANFORD NATIONAL PARK RIDE! 🌲🏕️
Instead of crossing the country in search of America’s great national parks, we’re going to explore some of Sanford’s great municipal parks right here in our own backyard.
We may or may not visit:
🌳 Fort Mellon Park
🌳 Centennial Park
🌳 Park on Park
🌳 Coastline Park
🌳 George Starke Park
🌳 Paw Park
At each stop, we’ll admire the natural beauty, inspect the amenities and contemplate setting up camp for the night.
Actually…
Scratch the tents. We’re not setting up tents. 😂
We’ll keep moving.
We’ll also be on the lookout for local wildlife.
🐻 Please DO NOT feed the bears.
Mostly because there probably won’t be any bears.
🐿️ We may have to settle for squirrels.
This will be a fun, casual, leisurely ride through Sanford, visiting some parks, getting outside, breathing some fresh air and experiencing the majestic wilderness of…
…municipally maintained Seminole County. 😂
No mountain passes.
No geysers.
No buffalo herds.
No entrance fee.
Just bikes, parks, friends and another slightly ridiculous Sanford Bicycle Club adventure.
🌙 IMPORTANT: It will be dark during the ride, so a working HEADLIGHT and TAILLIGHT are required. Please make sure both are charged and ready before we roll.
🚲 Fun. Casual. Social. Sometimes a little weird.
