About this Event

Sam Lobley was born in New York City and raised in River Edge, New Jersey. He was first introduced to music at a young age through singers like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Louis Prima, and very quickly developed a love for the art. As he went through high school and college, he dove deeper into Jazz and other styles of Black American Music such as R/B, Soul, and Funk. Specifically taking influence from bass players Ray Brown, Christian McBride, Paul Chambers, and Charles Mingus. He graduated from the Jazz Program at Florida State University in 2019, under the tutelage of world-renowned educators Leon Anderson and Rodney Jordan.

Since moving to New Orleans, Sam has performed with various projects in venues all over town, such as The Spotted Cat and Mahogany Hall, and has found a new love for the music through the culture of the city. He has had the honor of playing in festivals such as The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and French Quarter Fest, and the privilege of making music alongside some of New Orleans' most celebrated artists, including Leon "Kid Chocolate" Brown, Ashlin Parker, and the legendary Ellis Marsalis. He aims to bring his previous influences and skills to the stage and seamlessly incorporate all the styles he has studied through the years every time he performs. Sam has a lifelong love for Music, and will always strive to learn, practice, and work hard to continue doing what he loves!
