Chapter II Anatomy of a Revolution
About this Event

The Royal Bloom: Chapter II โ€” Anatomy of a Revolution is the next evolution in Father Marcus LaBeijaโ€™s partnership with the Museum of the City of New York and the continuation of the Royal Bloom series of cultural Mini-Deluxe Balls.

Inspired by the forthcoming exhibition Occupied City, which explores life in New York during British occupation from 1776 to 1783, this edition reimagines that period through the lens of ballroomโ€™s ongoing struggle for autonomy, artistry, and survival. It parallels the cityโ€™s early fight for liberation with the enduring resilience of Black and queer communities who continue to build beauty in defiance of erasure.

This event is officially OTY-approved under the New York/New Jersey Ballroom Alliance.

Ballroom has always been an act of revolution โ€” a declaration that existence itself deserves light, space, and applause. This event stages that defiance in a museum context, merging two timelines: colonial New Yorkโ€™s fight for freedom and the ongoing struggle of marginalized artists to define and defend their place in history.

The evening unfolds through seven cinematic categories โ€” each symbolizing a stage of rebellion and rebirth. From the poise and command of the Femme Queen Trilogy to the precision of Performance and the discipline of Runway, every category becomes a statement of independence, self-governance, and grace under scrutiny. This revised program outline is shared as a working document to support alignment and discussion with the Museum of the City of New York.

๐Ÿ’„ FEMME QUEEN CATEGORIES - THE FOUNDERS โ€” THE REVOLUTION IN HEELS

Femme Queens are the heartbeat of the Ballroom Revolution โ€” the architects of beauty, defiance, and grace. Through visibility, style, and presence, they transformed femininity into authority and survival into spectacle, claiming space in a world that once denied them. In Anatomy of a Revolution, Femme Queens represent the origin point โ€” the force that shaped Ballroomโ€™s language, aesthetics, and rules of engagement before the world ever learned how to name it.

This ball is inspired by Occupied City, an exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York, which examines revolution as lived experience โ€” how power, resistance, and survival move through bodies inside systems not designed for them. Across the Femme Queen categories, light is the unifying force โ€” not as excess, but as presence. Glow, reflection, clarity, and radiance should feel intentional and alive, revealing confidence rather than covering it. This is light as recognition: being seen, believed, and received without apology.

FEMME QUEEN REALNESS โ€” THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Femme Queen Realness is about visibility as resistance โ€” the ability to move through everyday life as yourself and be received without explanation. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects one of Ballroomโ€™s most radical shifts: when what was once pushed into shadow becomes undeniable in plain sight. Light is the language here โ€” not as spectacle, but as truth. Think soft golds, ivory, honeyed neutrals, pale warmth, gentle glow, or subtle illumination that allows the body to be seen clearly and without distortion. This is recognition as revolution: being seen plainly, believed quickly, and accepted without question in a world that once denied you.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

FEMME QUEEN BEST DRESSED โ€” THE SOVEREIGN COURT

This category is about looking like you belong at the top. Femme Queen Best Dressed is for those who understand that fashion signals status, confidence, and control. For Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects how power is recognized in public life โ€” through presentation, polish, and presence. Bring a polished, elevated look โ€” gown, jumpsuit, or structured ensemble โ€” where every element works together cleanly. White, pearl, soft gold, champagne, and crystal tones are encouraged, finished with luminous, glossed, crystal, or light-reflective surfaces that catch and carry the light without distraction. When you step out, the look should feel intentional, refined, and undeniable โ€” as if the room already knows who you are.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

FEMME QUEEN FACE โ€” THE STANDARD

Femme Queen Face is about beauty as measure โ€” the point of reference against which everything else is read. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects how standards are established: through clarity, balance, and presence that holds under scrutiny. The face must read fully and immediately, unobstructed and clearly visible. Light functions here as precision rather than spectacle โ€” controlled glow and focused illumination that allow the face to register instantly. White, pearl, soft gold, champagne, and crystal tones with luminous or light-reflective finishes are encouraged. If a presentation or reveal is used, it must remain clean and controlled; distraction or disruption may result in a chop. When the face reads clearly, it becomes the standard.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

FEMME QUEEN PERFORMANCE โ€” THE WAR DANCE

Femme Queen Performance is about power in motion โ€” how you take the floor and make it yours. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this category represents the moment when resistance turns physical: energy released through rhythm, confidence, and control. You must perform in a designer boot โ€” the boot is part of the statement, not an accessory. Heeled, platformed, sculptural, or sleek, it must be something you can actually move in; if you canโ€™t perform in it, it doesnโ€™t belong here. Your look must support stamina, balance, and freedom of movement. Light is welcome and encouraged: luminous whites, pearls, soft golds, champagne, or crystal tones with light, reflective, or radiant finishes that lift the performance rather than distract from it. At the end of the day, this category is about how you hit, how you move, and how you command the room โ€” in your boots, in your body, and in your power.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

FEMME QUEEN TRILOGY: (REALNESS, BODY & FACE) โ€” THE BIRTH OF THE REVOLUTION

This category represents the moment when all elements align. Femme Queen Trilogy honors those who deliver realness, body, and face as a single, unified presence โ€” confidence, clarity, and control working together without separation. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects the point where visibility becomes undeniable: when authenticity, form, and beauty operate in harmony and can no longer be ignored. The presentation should feel intentional from head to toe โ€” realness must read as lived-in and unquestionable, the body must be present and claimed, and the face must read with assurance and clarity. Light, structure, skin, and body should work together through nudes, ivories, bone tones, warm neutrals, and luminous finishes that enhance rather than distract, with nothing feeling added on or disconnected. This is not about excelling in parts โ€” it is about cohesion, embodiment, and the moment the full story reads at once.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

๐Ÿ‘‘ WOMENโ€™S CATEGORIES - THE ALLIES โ€” THE ELEGANCE OF RESISTANCE

Women have always been the quiet architects of change โ€” organizers, protectors, and visionaries whose labor and leadership sustained movements from within. This block honors women who transform resilience into expression, who lead through intention rather than spectacle. Every look, every walk, every motion reflects strength carried with composure, strategy expressed through elegance, and resistance shaped by care and resolve.

Across these categories, earth and earth tones ground the presentation โ€” expressed through structure, refinement, and movement rather than brightness or excess. Browns, clays, olives, stone, and muted warmth should feel intentional and lived-in, signaling stability, continuity, and endurance. This is elegance rooted in purpose: the power of holding things together while everything else shifts.

WOMENโ€™S BEST DRESSED โ€” THE STRATEGIST

Womenโ€™s Best Dressed, viewed through Anatomy of a Revolution, centers fashion as strategy โ€” precision, intention, and quiet authority used to shape outcomes without spectacle. Bring a polished, sculptural look rooted in earth tones, favoring matte or satin finishes that feel grounded and deliberate. Tailoring should read controlled and intentional rather than decorative. Accessories must be purposeful and integrated, supporting the look without overwhelming it.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

WOMENโ€™S FACE โ€” THE QUIET REVOLUTIONARY

Womenโ€™s Face, viewed through Anatomy of a Revolution, centers controlled visibility โ€” beauty carried with intention, composure, and quiet authority as power moves without announcement. Bring a polished, high-fashion look suited for a formal or closed-door setting โ€” gowns, column dresses, tailored suits, or refined evening wear โ€” where presence registers as deliberate, confident, and unmistakable. Earth tones, clay, stone, and shadowed neutrals should anchor the palette, allowing luxury and depth to register without distraction.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

WOMENโ€™S PERFORMANCE โ€” THE FORCE

In Anatomy of a Revolution, Womenโ€™s Performance represents action โ€” the moment pressure turns into motion and strategy becomes force. This category is about grounded power in motion. Bring a performance-ready look that supports movement while staying rooted: sculpted, wrapped, contoured, or draped pieces that move with the body without breaking form. Earth tones, clay, stone, and shadow anchor the presentation, emphasizing weight, strength, and presence over distraction or spectacle.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

๐Ÿ’‹ DRAGS CATEGORIES - THE VISIONARIES โ€” THE ART OF EXAGGERATION

Drag artists are the revolutionโ€™s alchemists โ€” transforming pain into pageantry, politics into performance, and visibility into power. This block honors those who understand that exaggeration is not a flaw, but a survival tactic refined into spectacle.

Across the Drag categories, fire drives the visual language. Heat, saturation, contrast, and scale define the presentation โ€” bold color, molten shine, dramatic proportion, and theatrical intensity. Think reds, crimsons, embers, golds, whites, and high-impact contrast, paired with gloss, sequins, lacquer, vinyl, or high-reflective finishes. This is excess with intention.

DRAGS BEST DRESSED โ€” THE ARISTOCRATS OF REBELLION

In Anatomy of a Revolution, Drag Best Dressed reflects how exaggeration became a political tool โ€” spectacle used to demand space, command attention, and refuse erasure. Bring a fully realized look where hair, makeup, and wardrobe operate in complete alignment, favoring saturated reds, crimsons, embers, golds, and high-contrast whites rendered in glossed, metallic, patent, flame-bright, or high-reflective finishes. Excess is welcome, but it must be intentional โ€” proportion, cohesion, and finish matter more than chaos. This is rebellion dressed in refinement: grandeur with purpose and glamour that refuses to shrink.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

โšก๏ธ GNC CATEGORIES - THE ARCHITECTS OF DUALITY โ€” WHERE MASCULINE AND FEMININE COLLIDE

Gender Non-Conforming participants have always lived at the edges of definition โ€” bending, breaking, and reshaping what visibility looks like when it refuses a single lane. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this block represents disruption itself: the pressure placed on rigid systems until new shapes are forced to exist.

Across the GNC categories, air drives the visual language โ€” lightness, contrast, and tension rather than weight or density. Palettes favor bone, ivory, white, pale gray, mist, and softened neutrals, expressed through matte, sheer, translucent, softly reflective, or diffused finishes. This is presence without heaviness โ€” form in motion, clarity without confinement.

GNC BEST DRESSED โ€” THE DISRUPTOR

GNC Best Dressed reflects Ballroomโ€™s present moment within Anatomy of a Revolution โ€” where gender expression expands beyond traditional lanes and self-definition is asserted through fashion. Bring a fully realized look that blends, disrupts, or reframes gendered fashion language, with both masculine and feminine energies present and held in balance โ€” neither overpowering the other. The palette should sit in bone, ivory, white, pale gray, or mist tones, executed through sheer, floating, lightweight, or translucent finishes that feel deliberate rather than fragile. The look must read cohesive, fashion-forward, and assured โ€” how you carry it determines its power.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

๐Ÿ•ด๐Ÿฝ MALE FIGURE CATEGORIES - THE ACTIVATORS โ€” POWER REFINED

Male Figures activate Ballroomโ€™s momentum โ€” applying discipline, stamina, and execution once vision is set. Their presence is defined by control: the ability to move through systems, pressure, and expectation without losing shape.

Across these categories, power appears under pressure โ€” steady, adaptive, and enduring. Water is the visual through line, expressed through depth, sheen, and tonal restraint rather than brightness or excess. Layered blues, charcoals, slate, steel, ink, and oil-slick reflective finishes suggest force held beneath the surface. This is power that moves without splashing.

MALE FIGURE BEST DRESSED โ€” THE POLISHED REBEL

Male Figure Best Dressed is read through Anatomy of a Revolution as composure under scrutiny โ€” how power is maintained through discipline, refinement, and consistency rather than spectacle. Bring a sharply tailored, fashion-forward look rooted in modern power dressing: structured suits, elevated formalwear, or intentional statement pieces that read deliberate and confident. The palette should sit in layered blues, slate, charcoal, steel, or ink, finished with subtle sheen or reflective depth that suggests pressure beneath the surface. The look should feel calm, precise, and immovable โ€” fashion that holds its shape in motion.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

MALE FIGURE NEW FACE โ€” THE RISING DISCIPLE

In Anatomy of a Revolution, Male Figure New Face represents emergence โ€” the moment potential becomes visible through discipline, polish, and intent, as new figures step forward ready to absorb structure and carry power responsibly. Bring a clean, sharply groomed look that reads focused and deliberate from head to toe; tailoring, grooming, and finish must feel intentional and confident. Water tones anchor the presentation โ€” navy, slate, charcoal, ink, and layered depth โ€” expressed through sheen, texture, or reflection that suggests pressure beneath the surface. This is promise made visible: composed, present, and ready to rise.

๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy ๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash Prize โ€” Grand Prize

MALE FIGURE PERFORMANCE โ€” THE ARCHITECT OF ENERGY

Male Figure Performance is where power is shaped through movement โ€” how energy is controlled, released, and sustained on the floor. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this block represents execution under pressure: discipline meeting creativity, stamina meeting precision, and performance becoming authority through repetition and control.

This block recognizes two distinct Male Figure performance styles, both grounded in ballroom history and judged on stamina, control, and execution โ€” how you carry energy, how you sustain it, and how clearly it lands.

๐Ÿ† 2 Trophies and๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

BUTCH QUEEN VOGUE FEMME - THE ATHLETIC SIREN
In Anatomy of a Revolution, Butch Queen Vogue Femme marks the moment Ballroom turned femininity into sustained physical language โ€” softness carried through strength, stamina, and control. Bring a look built from catsuits, bodysuits, stretch pieces, or fitted separates that contour the body and move cleanly with it across the floor. Footwear should ground the presentation with intention โ€” boots are strongly encouraged, heels are welcome, and the choice must support confidence and command. Water anchors the palette through layered blues, navy, slate, ink, and charcoal, executed in high-shine, iridescent, glossed, slick, or fully reflective finishes that amplify motion and pressure rather than soften it. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

REALNESS WITH A TWIST - THE CONTORTIONIST COMMANDER
In Anatomy of a Revolution, Realness With a Twist reflects Male Figure evolution โ€” where masculine authority holds steady even as the body bends, redirects, and expands through movement. Bring an urban, street-rooted athletic look grounded in everyday masculine realism: fitted track pants, joggers, shorts, tanks, fitted tees, compression tops, mesh layers, training tops, or dancewear-inspired street pieces commonly seen in gyms, studios, and city movement spaces, styled clean and intentional. The twist lives in the performance, not the clothing โ€” the look must remain believable, grounded, and masculine while allowing full range of motion. Water anchors the palette through navy, slate, ink, steel, and deep blues, expressed in stretch fabrics, wet-look materials, glossed finishes, or bold reflective surfaces that activate under motion. Competitors must have walked Male Figure Realness and received all 10s to enter this category. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

MALE FIGURE REALNESS โ€” THE POLITICS OF PASSING

In Anatomy of a Revolution, Male Figure Realness is about credibility as survival โ€” the ability to move through environments that measure you before you speak. Drawing from Snowfall (FXโ€™s crime drama set in 1980s Los Angeles, streaming on Hulu), this category reflects the lived discipline of appearing exactly where you belong inside systems shaped by surveillance, pressure, and consequence. Every setting demands a different read, and one miscalculation changes everything.

Across all Realness lanes, water anchors the fantasy โ€” pressure beneath the surface, control without spectacle. Blues, navy, slate, charcoal, denim, steel, and muted neutrals should feel polished, dry, and intentional, favoring restraint over flash. The goal is immediate recognition, not explanation. You donโ€™t announce who you are. The room decides it for you.

๐Ÿ† 3 Trophies and๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” Grand Prize

Schoolboy Realness โ€” The Initiate

This is young Franklin Saint โ€” before power hardens him. Early seasons. Clean. Approachable. Unremarkable in the best way. He moves through school and everyday spaces without friction - because nothing about him raises questions. Youth is his camouflage. Credibility comes from effortlessness. If you look like you belong, you do. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

Thug Realness โ€” The Enforcer

This is Leon Simmons โ€” street-level authority, earned and unquestioned. The posture is grounded. The presence is territorial. Control replaces chaos. Nothing flashy, nothing exaggerated. This is realness built from survival โ€” the kind that doesnโ€™t need to speak loudly because the environment already recognizes it. You donโ€™t perform menace. You carry it. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

Executive Realness โ€” The Authority

This is Stringer Bell from HBOโ€™s The Wire โ€” power refined behind closed doors. Meetings. Offices. Negotiations. Spaces where decisions are finalized quietly. His authority is clean, composed, and restrained. Nothing feels borrowed. No explanation. This realness comes from looking like youโ€™ve always had access โ€” and knowing the room accepts it. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

๐ŸŒ OPEN TO ALL CATEGORIES - THE PUREST FORM - SKILL ABOVE ALL ELSE
These are Ballroomโ€™s foundational languages โ€” the techniques, walks, and movement systems that define mastery on the floor. Here, gender dissolves and only execution remains. Precision, clarity, discipline, and control determine what reads, what holds, and what commands respect.

In Anatomy of a Revolution, Open to All represents structure under pressure โ€” how movement becomes legible, repeatable, and authoritative inside systems that demand clarity. This is the blueprint: skill refined into form. Anyone may enter, but only execution decides who stands.

OTA OLD WAY - โ€œTHE GEOMETRIC REVOLUTIONARYโ€

Old Way is about clarity, control, and discipline โ€” clean lines, sharp angles, and intentional stops that read immediately in motion. This is about living in the music: hitting the beat, landing your dips, and holding firm poses with confidence and precision. In Anatomy of a Revolution, Old Way represents one of the earliest ways Ballroom organized and sharpened its movement language under pressure โ€” refining form, discipline, and presence into something legible, repeatable, and respected. Rust, copper, and burnt-earth tones ground the presentation, signaling origin, heat, and the structural layer everything else builds upon. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

OTA NEW WAY - โ€œTHE ELASTIC INNOVATORโ€
New Way is about expansion, flexibility, and control pushed past the expected โ€” the body bending, stretching, and reshaping space while remaining intentional. Extensions travel further, contortions open wider, and movement fills the floor without losing clarity or purpose. In Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects the moment where structure adapts โ€” when what already exists must stretch in order to survive new pressure. Just as the exhibit upstairs examines how revolutions evolve beyond their origins, New Way represents Ballroomโ€™s growth beyond its early frameworks, transforming discipline into elasticity and form into possibility. Greens anchor the presentation โ€” emerald and growth tones signaling evolution, momentum, and the next phase taking shape. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

OLD WAY vs NEW WAY โ€” GRAND PRIZE BATTLE
Winners of Old Way and New Way return to the floor for a final showdown.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Cash โ€” 1 Grand Prize Winner

OTA EUROPEAN RUNWAY - โ€œTHE EDITORIAL SCULPTORโ€
European Runway values control, proportion, and polish โ€” a composed walk supported by a refined, editorial look. For Anatomy of a Revolution, this category reflects how presence is communicated through precision: measured steps, intentional pauses, and a garment that leads without overpowering the walk. Bring an editorial European fashion look inspired by a Met Gala reference, and you must bring a photo of your inspiration for the judges. White, cream, and stone tones are encouraged to emphasize structure and clarity over color or excess. This category is about how cleanly you walk the look โ€” balance, pacing, and confidence across the floor decide the winner. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

OTA ALL-AMERICAN RUNWAY - โ€œTHE CHARISMATIC TRADITIONALISTโ€

All-American Runway is about confidence, presence, and how authority is worn in American life. For Anatomy of a Revolution, this category draws from formal U.S. military ceremony โ€” the visual language of discipline, structure, and command that signals legitimacy in public space. Bring a formal look inspired by U.S. military dress or ceremonial uniform, interpreted through tailoring, polish, and presence. Authentic uniforms are welcome but not required; interpretation is valid. You must bring a physical reference photo of your inspiration for the judges. ๐Ÿ† 1 Trophy

EUROPEAN vs ALL-AMERICAN โ€” GRAND PRIZE BATTLE
Winners of each runway lane return for a final battle.
