The Roman Spring is a Raleigh, North Carolina–based rock band that blends dreamy Americana, indie rock, and melodic pop into what the band has called “Cinematic Americana.” Fronted by singer-songwriter Alex Lawhon, the group grew out of Lawhon’s previous band, Colourslide, and evolved into a four-piece featuring some of the most experienced musicians in the North Carolina music scene. The band’s current lineup includes Lawhon, Scott Carle (Dillon Fence, Collapsis, Lost in the Trees), Sam Clowney (Parklife, The Veldt), and Eric Lee. Collectively, the members have toured and shared stages with artists including Wilco, John Mayer, Weezer, Pavement, The Black Crowes, Maroon 5, Third Eye Blind, The Lemonheads, and Jet.
The Roman Spring released its debut EP in 2020, recorded in Durham with producer Ryan Pickett and engineer John Plymale. The release included songs such as “Home,” “Carry Me,” “Your Goodbye,” and “My Crooked Face.”
More than a conventional singer-songwriter project, The Roman Spring has always been conceived as a collaborative band. Lawhon has described the idea as an “open door” project built around bringing together musicians he admired, eventually settling into a lineup whose members bring decades of experience in the North Carolina music community.
THE GUMBYS
Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, and Fort Collins, Colorado, The Gumbys are David Baldwin and James Thompson. The two have been creative partners on and off since they were teenagers and had the idea that maybe the world needs a little retro-modern classic rock & roll. And even if the world doesn't need it, it's getting a dose anyway and it'll like it, damn it. Don't make us come back there.
