Four women. One revolution. And a story worth losing your head over.
Set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, The Revolutionists is a bold, fast-paced comedy about four remarkable women trying to change the world while trying not to lose their heads.
Playwright Olympe de Gouges is desperately searching for something meaningful to write when her world is interrupted by three extraordinary women: assassin Charlotte Corday, Haitian revolutionary Marianne Angelle, and former Queen of France Marie Antoinette. Together, they wrestle with art, activism, friendship, legacy, and what it means to stand up for something when everything is on the line.
Funny, fierce, irreverent, and unexpectedly moving, Lauren Gunderson’s The Revolutionists takes a wildly theatrical look at the French Revolution through the stories of women too often left out of the history books.

An Immersive Night at the Boathouse
For this production, the experience begins before the first line is spoken. The Boathouse Theatre will be transformed to bring audiences into the world of revolutionary France, creating an intimate and immersive evening on the shores of Lake Tahoe.
Come early, grab a drink, step into the revolution, and prepare for a night of theatre that is equal parts hilarious, poignant, rebellious, and wonderfully theatrical.
