About this Event
Our series on ancient epics continues with a discussion of Gilgamesh.
Was Gilgamesh a hero or a loser—or perhaps both? Was Enkidu his friend or his lover—or both? And what, in the twists and turns of life's events, does it mean to be wise? The Epic of Gilgamesh hardly provides any answers, but sends us home with some surprising questions. This discussion will be led by Niek Veldhuis.
Niek Veldhuis received his PhD from Groningen University (The Netherlands) in 1997. His research work has concentrated on ancient scribal education, literature and religion, and he is involved in various digital humanities projects.
