A Prayer for Trust:
When we think about trust, I notice it’s easy to think about it from our own seat… whether I trust, whether I’m trusted, whether the room feels trustworthy to ME.
But trust isn’t something we can demand or declare. It grows where there is care: when we listen, pay attention, and want the people around us to feel safe, loved & heard. My Prayer for Trust is a prayer for a world where trust is trustworthy… where giving it never makes anyone feel naive, and where those who receive it honor it.
Which means it’s not our job to decide what trust looks like for someone else. It’s our job to ask… and then actually listen, especially to those with less privilege than me. What do you need in order to trust the people around you? In this room? In the world?
This Thursday, I’ve invited four women, Sabrina Cyan, Natalie Lall, Megan Kinney & Celine Torkan, to form an improvised choir, while we hold a prayer for trust with echoing and enhancing their voices.
This brings up questions for me:
What do you need in order to trust the people around you? And what would it look like to ask someone else the same question?
On Thursday, November 5th, ITAI 🎷 welcomes four singers for an improvised "Swanning" experience: a prayer for safety, held in voice.
We call it "Sound Connections" as in - connection with others, with self, and with something bigger than all of us... Step into the Swan Lake Circle. ✨
✨ Sabrina Cyan 🎤
Sabrina Cyan is a soulful, expressive singer-songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles. She has been singing and writing songs on the piano her entire life, skills that were expanded while earning a degree in Music from Kenyon College. Her belief in letting the music "be what it wants" regardless of genre or palatability has guided her songwriting all the way to the recent release of her debut EP "Never Forever." Sabrina loves improvised singing and has happily involved herself in the communal singing scene in LA.
✨ Natalie Lall
Natalie is a myth-maker, singer, actor, and immersive theatre creator from Kenosha, WI now based in Los Angeles. Her work often incorporates traditional oral storytelling with music and food, inviting the whole body into play. She's also an Organic Intelligence™️ coach, working 1:1 to support our biologies' natural rhythms of healing. She's passionate about bringing people together to delight in story, cultivating individual imagination to inspire collective connection and hope. 🌀
✨ Kinney
Megan Kinney is a singer, songwriter and dancer who, at the core of it all, builds her art and music on contemplation, hoping to bring the listener into deeper connection with themselves and the world around them. "So Glad You Exist" will be the debut EP release of her career, following several successful singles. Megan has had an amazingly eclectic career: being a natural born dancer all her life and studying musical theater in college, she then pivoted toward songwriting and performing her own music after moving to Los Angeles. She has since developed her talent for performing through countless live performances at clubs all over Los Angeles, as well as at less traditional venues such as yoga classes, festivals, and plant medicine ceremonies, all while building a strong core fan base of followers through social media.
✨ Celine Torkan
Somewhere between synagogues, her high school choir room, and the worldwide stages she's performed on, Celine Torkan came to understand music as medicine. A Persian Jewish vocalist based in Los Angeles, Celine carries her soothing alto tones and her love of crunchy harmonies into every room she sings in. She sees sound as a powerful way to create space for connection and healing, and reminds us that – even on a neurological level – we are never truly experiencing music alone.
✨ ITAI 🎷🎹
Saxophonist and live-electronic artist; founder of The Residency. Blending Middle Eastern roots, jazz improvisation, and groove-forward electronics, he guides face-to-face, one-night-only collaborations into real-time Sound Connections.

*** The Dance floor can be a soft and vulnerable space. We like to be present with each other therefore we request it being a "No Phone Zone" (we will record the sessions and take some snippets which will be shared on the Sound Connections Patreon channel). For similar reasons, we would love to keep the dance floor a "No Shoes on the dance floor".
💬 You are part of the experience, please dance, scream, sing as long as you respect other people's space and experience as well <3
***If you want to add an instrument please coordinate in advance since the curation of the night is very intentional.
*** All Sets are being filmed and recorded, pay attention to the "dark areas" if you don't want to be on camera!
🤫 Let's keep deep conversations off the dancing areas... It's not meant to be a "no talking" environment and most people are trying to connect with the music in a non-verbal way. A great place for deeper conversations is the Tea Lounge (:
The Tea Lounge 🍵
The Tea Lounge is an inseparable part of The Residency's cozy season.
Tea Lounge opens at 8pm, please join us for a cup of tea, games and a hang.
The Story of The Residency - Sound Connections:
From ITAI: "After years of touring the world and playing on the biggest stages I could imagine, I started looking for something deeper. Indeed there is real magic in playing in front of big crowds, yet I was craving something, an ongoing connection, to root into my community, and for that, I knew I needed a consistent local experience, which is how The Residency was born.
This new season of The Residency is about deepening our connection, as we grow as individuals and as a community. If the artists are the first swans, creating the spark together, this season is about the audience swanning as well, reflecting back at each other, and at the artists, in a beautiful swan lake of mirroring.
Every Thursday, we'll feature one very special guest artist, sitting across from me as we create the soundtrack for the night from scratch.
What is Swanning?
Like two swans facing each other in a moment of deep connection, this allows us to share and respond, creating something raw, alive, and unrepeatable. In this format, the audience surrounds the face-to-face artists which forms a circle that makes everyone part of the experience. Step into the circle (:
