About this Event

The Relational Crucible: Integrative Couples Therapy

2 day course 9 & 10 January 2027 at Physis Scotland, Edinburgh

With Lohani Noor, UKCP, MSc

When a couple comes into the room, the client isn't either of them. It's the pattern between them. This two-day course gives trainee and qualified therapists three ways of seeing that pattern: Transactional Analysis for how partners' scripts lock together, Gestalt for tracking contact as it happens, and a biopsychosocial frame for working with sex and intimacy.

Day one: Scripts, contracts and the relational field

  • Life scripts, interlocking scripts and partner choice
  • Ego states and life positions in couple transactions
  • Contracting at initial, therapeutic and process levels
  • Heteronormative and mono-normative assumptions in the therapy room
  • Transference and countertransference enactments
  • The Gestalt infinity process and the cycle of contact
  • The drama triangle, triangulation and intergenerational patterns

Day two: The body, sexuality and integration

  • Biopsychosocial assessment and trauma-informed sexual history taking
  • Low desire, desire discrepancy and erotic deadness as relational patterns
  • Gendered scripts, infidelity, and power in a couple's sexual life
  • Integrating script analysis and Gestalt experiments in practice
  • The therapist's own script, and co-therapy
  • GSRD, high conflict couples, separation, and ethical practice

Short teaching inputs, experiential work in triads, case vignettes and small group work, with time to bring your own cases. You don't need prior TA or Gestalt training. Everyone receives a full course handbook with assessment tools, formulation templates and a reading list.
