When a couple comes into the therapy room, the client isn’t simply either individual. It’s also the relationship between them: the patterns they repeat, the ways they move towards and away from each other, and what happens when intimacy, conflict, sexuality and past experience meet. This two-day, in-person CPD course with Lohani Noor brings together Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and a biopsychosocial approach to psychosexual therapy to explore how we can understand and work with couples more integratively.
Across the two days, we’ll explore areas including:
• interlocking scripts, ego states and couple dynamics
• contracting and the relational field
• Gestalt approaches to contact, withdrawal and relational patterns
• intergenerational patterns and triangulation
• sexuality, desire and intimacy within couple relationships
• psychosexual assessment and formulation
• infidelity, conflict, power and relational distress
• working with gender, sexuality and relationship diversity
• the therapist’s own script and its place in the work
• supporting couples who choose to separate
The course combines teaching, case material, experiential exercises, work in triads and opportunities to bring your own cases for group formulation.
Who is it for?
Trainee and qualified therapists who already work with couples, or who would like to develop their work in this area.
You don’t need previous training in Transactional Analysis or Gestalt. The core ideas will be introduced during the course, while more experienced practitioners will also have opportunities to explore complex formulation and practice.
