Join physiologist Tony Woods to discuss why art is important to health and wellbeing
About this Event

Join Tony Woods as he outlines the current state of the art in Creative Health - why receptive and participatory art is important to health and wellbeing. This talk will focus on Woods' current research and recent gallery study of physiological responses to viewing authentic art in gallery settings.

Tony Woods is a physiologist with degrees from King's College London (B.SC.) and St. George University of London (Ph.D). After 11 years in research (incl. 4 years as a neuroscience lecturer) Tony spent 15 years at one of the world's largest charitable foundations- Wellcome Trust, where he became Head of Medical Humanities and Public Engagement grants. He then spent 3 years as CEO of Genesis Research Trust (a charity based at Imperial College funding research to improve women’s and babies’ health) and returned to Wellcome to take charge of a research hub looking at perceptions of dementia. He is now a research leader in Creative Health at King's College London having secured over £3m in grants for arts in health interventions, as well as being the senior manager for the Institute of Human and Synthetic Minds at King’s College. His research interest is understanding mechanisms of how creativity impacts human health and wellbeing.
