Have a film idea but don’t know how to get it funded?
The Film Files Club presents The Pitching Room, an hands-on workshop designed for emerging filmmakers who want to develop their projects and get better at pitching them.
This isn't a panel or a talk. It's a working room where you'll bring a film project you're actively developing, pitch it to three experienced industry professionals, receive personalised feedback, and then put that feedback into practice.
Across the session, you'll learn more about:
- How film funding works and where to find opportunities
- What funders and producers are looking for
- What makes a pitch clear, compelling and memorable
- How to communicate your story, vision and why you are the person to make it
- How to approach funding conversations with more confidence
You'll then enter the Pitching Lab, where you'll pitch your project three times — once to each of our hosts. After every round, you'll receive feedback, have time to reflect and refine your pitch, and then try again.
Pitch → Feedback → Refine → Pitch Again.
The workshop will be led by:

Harvey John — Founder, The Developing Room
Joseph Bushell — Head of Production, Marauder Pictures
With experience across film development, production, funding, talent development and funding panels, each host brings a different perspective to the room.

- Have a film idea or project they are actively developing
- Want to learn how to pitch it clearly and confidently
- Are looking for funding and don't know where to start
- Want honest insight into what funders and producers are looking for
- Have pitched before and want to strengthen their approach
- Want practical feedback from people working in the industry
What we'll cover
The workshop will combine practical guidance with hands-on pitching, covering:
- Understanding film funding — where to find opportunities, how funding works and what funders look for
- Building a strong pitch — how to communicate your story, vision and why you’re the right person to make it
- Pitching practice — pitch your project to three industry professionals and receive individual feedback
- Refining your pitch — put feedback into practice and develop your pitch throughout the session
- Next steps — funding opportunities, applications, supporting materials and how to move your project forward
You don't need a finished film, script or polished pitch — but you do need an idea for a film that you're ready to work on and pitch.
There are only 15 places available to keep the workshop intimate and ensure everyone gets meaningful 1-to-1 feedback.
What to bring
Please come prepared to pitch your project verbally. You’re also welcome to bring any materials that could help you communicate your idea, such as a treatment, script, lookbook, moodboard, deck, visual references or other supporting materials.
You’ll also receive feedback throughout the workshop, so please bring something to take notes with — a notebook and pen, or your laptop/tablet.
