About this Event
Instructors: Elena Ricci & Kelwin Coleman
Kelwin and Elena will co-lead this hands-on, process-driven workshop in gelli printing, blending personal photographic imagery with the tactile unpredictability of monotype printmaking. Throughout the session, the two artists will pause the hands-on work to share pieces of their own practice — brief artist talks woven directly into the process, offering participants a window into how each of them approaches image-making, materials, and meaning.
In light of AI art's growing presence in creative spaces, this workshop insists on the value of the handmade: finding and nurturing a personal artistic voice through curiosity, experimentation, and the physical act of making. Participants will layer their own photographs into gelli prints, learning printmaking techniques alongside Kelwin and Elena's own stories and influences, and coming away with a deeper appreciation for art as object — something singular, tactile, and irreproducible.
Participants are encouraged to bring personal photographs to integrate into their monotypes. These photographs can be physical images that we will photocopy, or digital files that will be printed on site. Each participant will leave with one-of-a-kind prints entirely their own.
