About this Event
Big Day Out 2026 – Phase 4 PE Curriculum
Every November, we hit the road and bring kaiako together from across Aotearoa for a day of connection, learning and practical PLD.
This year, we're getting you ready for the new Year 9–10 (Phase 4) PE curriculum, rolling out in 2027. You'll leave with a clear understanding of what's changing, hands-on strategies to try in your classroom, and a plan to put it into action.
How the day works
1. Understand the curriculum
A quick look across Phases 1 to 4, then a closer focus on Phase 4: the key changes, structure, progressions and capabilities.
2. Explore it through the strands
Three hands-on workshop rounds, one for each strand:
- Strand A – Movement
- Strand B – Active Participation
- Strand C – OED
Each workshop previews Phase 3, then digs into the knowledge and practices in Phase 4. You'll take home a printed resource from every session (also available after the day).
3. Apply it to planning
Map your current programme onto the new curriculum using a large-format planning canvas, with a focus on flexible planning and a knowledge-rich framing.
Please bring a copy of your current year plan.
