Whether you're continuing your artistic journey after completing a Foundations course or have been painting for years, The Painting Studio offers a welcoming, collaborative environment where you can develop your skills, explore new techniques, and grow as an artist.Designed for painters of varying experience levels, this ongoing program combines the freedom to work on individual projects with focused instruction from artist and educator Heather Martin.
Each four-week session explores one essential aspect of painting, such as composition, value, color, perspective, or brushwork. Every class begins with approximately 30 minutes of group instruction and demonstration, followed by 90 minutes of painting time. Students work on subjects of their own choosing in acrylic or oil while receiving individualized guidance, constructive feedback, and encouragement.
Our rotating curriculum allows artists to deepen their understanding of foundational principles while applying them directly to their own creative work. Each four-week session stands on its own, so students can join at any time, explore topics that interest them, and continue developing their artistic practice at their own pace.
Beyond instruction, The Painting Studio offers something equally valuable: a supportive community of artists who share ideas, inspire one another, and enjoy the creative process together.
November 2026 will focus on designing stronger, more compelling painting through the use of compositional strategy. A successful painting begins long before the first brushstroke. The way we arrange shapes, establish balance, create movement, and direct the viewer's eye can transform an ordinary subject into a compelling work of art.
Join artist and educator Heather Martin for a four-week exploration of composition, one of the most essential foundations of painting.
Each week, we'll investigate a different aspect of composition.
