Six whiskies you are unlikely to taste anywhere else
Octave releases are produced in extremely limited quantities. They are typically drawn from an individual cask and bottled at natural or cask strength, creating distinctive versions of whiskies that rarely appear in bars or standard retail ranges.
Once these bottles are gone, the same whisky may never be available again.
Our specially selected line-up includes:
- Caol Ila 2008 — 16 Years Old

What makes an Octave whisky special?
The Octave Collection explores what happens when carefully selected mature whisky receives additional maturation in a much smaller cask.
An Octave cask is around one-eighth the size of a standard sherry butt. This creates much greater contact between the whisky and the wood, allowing the cask to add new layers of aroma, flavour, colour and complexity.
Andrew will take us behind the bottles, explaining:
- How the Octave maturation process works
- Why particular spirits and casks are selected
- How the smaller cask transforms the whisky
- What makes each limited release distinctive
- How to identify the influence of the wood in the glass
This is also a first for Derby Whisky Club. We have hosted many tastings over the years, but this will be our first led by a representative of a whisky company. It is a rare opportunity to hear directly from someone with expert knowledge of the whiskies, the casks and the thinking behind the collection.
There will be plenty of time to taste, compare, ask questions and talk whisky with Andrew throughout the evening.
As always, this will not be a formal or intimidating masterclass. Expect a friendly, relaxed and engaging evening, whether you are an experienced whisky enthusiast or simply interested in discovering something new.
