About this Event
Derby Whisky Club is delighted to welcome Andrew Sinat from Duncan Taylor Spirits for a very special guided exploration of the Duncan Taylor Octave Collection.
The Octave range is built around a fascinating idea: what happens when carefully selected mature whisky is given additional maturation in a much smaller cask?
Duncan Taylor has been pioneering the use of Octave casks for decades. At around one-eighth the size of a standard butt, these small casks create much greater interaction between the whisky and the wood. The result can be a remarkable transformation, adding new layers of flavour, aroma, colour and complexity to an already mature spirit.
On the night, Andrew will guide us through a specially selected line-up from the Octave Collection. Rather than simply tasting a series of whiskies, we'll explore how the Octave process works, why particular casks are chosen and what this distinctive approach to maturation can bring to the whisky in our glass.
It is also a first for Derby Whisky Club. We've held plenty of tastings over the years, but this will be our first tasting led by a representative of a whisky company, giving us the opportunity to hear directly from someone with expert knowledge of the whiskies, the casks and the thinking behind the collection.
There will be plenty of opportunity to taste, compare, ask questions and talk whisky with Andrew throughout the evening.
And, as always with Derby Whisky Club, this won't be a formal masterclass. Expect a friendly, relaxed and engaging evening, whether you're a whisky enthusiast or simply interested in discovering something new.
Great whisky, expert insight and the chance to get under the skin of one of the most distinctive approaches to whisky maturation.
A genuinely special Derby Whisky Club night.
