About the performers:
Emi Ferguson was a 2023 recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant. The founder and director of Exquisite Corpse, a collective dedicated to music and art that resists easy categorization, she can be heard in concerts and festivals with groups including AMOC*, Ruckus, the Handel and Haydn Society, New York New Music Ensemble, Manhattan Chamber Players, and as music director of Camerata Pacifica Baroque.
Her recordings celebrate her fascination with reinvigorating music and instruments of the past for the present. Her debut album, Amour Cruel, an indie-pop song cycle inspired by the music of the 17th-century French court, was released by Arezzo Music in September 2017, spending four weeks on the classical, classical crossover, and world music Billboard charts. Her 2019 album Fly the Coop: Bach Sonatas and Preludes, a collaboration with continuo band Ruckus, debuted at #1 on the iTunes classical charts and #2 on the Billboard classical charts.
Emi Ferguson was a featured performer alongside Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Simon, and James Taylor at the 10th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony of 9/11 at Ground Zero. She has spoken and performed at several TEDX events and has been featured on the Discovery Channel, Netflix’s Explained (Vox), Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and WQXR, talking about how music relates to our world today.
She developed the WQXR series This Composer Is SICK!, exploring the impact of syphilis on historical composers as a way to highlight contemporary surges in syphilis cases. She is also a host for WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase and Once Upon A Composer, a series for the youngest radio listeners. Her book Iconic Composers introduces music lovers of all ages to Western classical composers from the past 1,000 years. Emi Ferguson has taught at Juilliard, the Bach Virtuosi Festival, and the University at Buffalo in addition to giving masterclasses at universities around the country. Born in Japan and raised in London and Boston, she now resides in New York.
Pianist and harpsichordist Hilda Huang was the youngest person and first American to win first prize at the Leipzig International Bach Competition (2014) on piano, at age 18, and also took top prizes at the Leipzig, Tureck, and Würzburg International Bach Competitions. In 2026 she was awarded second prize at the Musica Antiqua Bruges competition in harpsichord, making her the first artist in the world to have won top prizes at the Leipzig and Bruges competitions in both modern and historical instruments.
Hilda Huang recently premiered a special commission of the Missa Brevis by John Harbison at the Utrecht Early Music Festival. Since making her debut on the Steinway & Sons Prizewinners’ Concert Network at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, she has appeared at the Montréal Bach Festival, Leipzig Bach Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, and Kingston Chamber Music Festival, among others. She has appeared as a soloist with Il Gardelino (BelgiumE), Philharmonic Baroque (US), the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht (Netherlands), among others.
An advocate for accessibility and equity in music, Hilda Huang has collaborated with the Netherlands Musical Instrument Foundation, Atelier Chris Maene (Belgium), and Kluge Klaviaturen (Germany) to commission a custom narrow-key piano keyboard. Ms. Huang teaches piano, harpsichord, and chamber music at the Sweelinck Academie at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She earned her doctorate at Juilliard, where she was a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow and a Fulbright Scholar to the Netherlands (2023). Her dissertation on the etymology of suspensions was awarded the Richard R. French Prize for outstanding research.
