About this Event
The Mother Rose Giving Tree: Give the Gift of Literacy
One book can open a world of possibilities. One community can change countless futures.
Underground Books invites you to participate in our annual Mother Rose Giving Tree, a special holiday book-giving initiative honoring the life, legacy, and enduring commitment to literacy of Georgia “Mother Rose” West.
Mother Rose understood that books are more than stories on a page. They are gateways to knowledge, imagination, confidence, opportunity, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Throughout her years at Underground Books, she championed literacy and believed in the importance of making books accessible to children and families in our community.
The Mother Rose Giving Tree continues that mission.
Each year, we invite our customers and community members to purchase books at Underground Books and donate them so we can distribute them to local schools. Every donated book helps place stories, knowledge, and new possibilities into the hands of young readers.
Why This Matters
Access to books can help shape a child's future. For children, especially Black children who deserve to see themselves reflected in the stories they read, having access to books that inspire, educate, and affirm their experiences can make a lasting difference.
Mother Rose dedicated herself to nurturing a love of reading and strengthening our community through literature. The Giving Tree is one way we carry that work forward, ensuring her legacy lives on through the next generation of readers.
How You Can Participate
- Purchase a book at Underground Books.
- Donate your book to the Mother Rose Giving Tree.
- Help us put books into local schools, where young readers can discover new stories and opportunities.
Every book makes a difference. Every donation helps nurture a reader. And every reader represents a future filled with possibility.
Join Underground Books in keeping Mother Rose’s vision alive. Together, we can continue building a community where literacy thrives and every child has the opportunity to experience the power of a book.
Give a book. Grow a reader. Continue the legacy.
