The Modern Agora - Downtown West Kick-Off

Building a local community inspired by a concept of the ancient greece!
About this Event

We are forming local communities based on a concept from the ancient greece. Thousands of years ago, it was normal for neighbours to meet in so-called "Agoras" to connect, debate, philosophize and start meaningful projects together. It's sad to see how isolated and disconnected life can be in modern times and I would love us to reestablish a bond that we are all intrinsically looking for.

For now, I'd like to keep it relatively local, so please join this kick-off only when you are living in the downtown west area, meaning wellington place, king west, west queen, fort yorke/libery village or harbourfront/city place. Further Agora events in other neighbourhoods shall follow soon!

We will meet for around 2 hours, and go through the following three layers.

  • Neighborhood/Personal issue (e.g. noise issues, organizing a flee market, mediation classes, personal stories, forming music or art groups...)
  • City/Country issue (e.g. volunteering, supporting immigrants, political issues, combating monopolies (e.g. loblaws), voting, democracy...)
  • Societal/Philosophical issue (e.g. generational problems like mental health, technology/AI impact, dating in Toronto...)

The idea would be that each participants suggests as least topic for each of the layers presented. I will select them and send them out for a vote so that we can have 1-2 topics each that we can go through and discuss/present.

Some finger food is prepared as well, generally let's please keep the atmosphere civil and friendly! It's supposed to be a meaningful event but I am hoping we have enough ease to build connections as well.

Looking forward to seeing all of you!!

Cheers,
Leon
