An interactive evening exploring how different rooms shape our responses, what they protect, and how we create more choice.
About this Event

At work, you’re confident.
With friends, you’re hilarious.
With family, you may occasionally become 14 again.

Same person. Different room. Different response.

Why?

The Masks We Wear is an interactive AscendYOU Evening exploring how our brains learn what different environments seem to require from us.

Sometimes we become the capable one. The agreeable one. The funny one. The person who never needs help.

These responses are not necessarily fake, and they are not automatically unhealthy. Many of them helped us belong, succeed, stay protected, or meet the expectations around us.

But a response that helped in one room may not belong in every room.

During this two-hour experience, you will:

• Participate in an interactive experiment showing how context can change behavior
• Learn how the brain uses previous experience and social cues to anticipate what may happen next
• Explore one response you have learned to rely on
• Create a personal mask through guided visual reflection
• Consider what that response helps you protect and what it may be costing you
• Practice one small, realistic response you can use in everyday life

No artistic ability is needed. You may use words, images, colors, symbols, or a simple minimalist design. All creative materials are included.

This is not group therapy, and no one will be required to share personal information or explain their mask. You choose what you explore and what you keep private.

The goal is not to remove every mask or reveal everything to everyone.

The goal is choice.

Join us for an evening that is thoughtful, creative, practical, and probably more relatable than any of us would like to admit.

Presented by Jeannie Owens, Certified Neuroscience Coach and Founder of AscendYOU.

Agenda

🕑: 05:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Come Early. Get Comfortable.

Info: Check in, find your seat, grab a drink or something to snack on, and meet a few people before we begin. No awkward networking circle. No icebreaker requiring an interesting fact about yourself. Promise.

🕑: 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM
Same Person. Different Room.

Info: A little neuroscience. A little creativity. A lot of “Oh, that’s me.” 6:00 PM | Same Person. Different Room.
A quick experiment that may reveal you are far less consistent than you imagined. Welcome to being human.
6:30 PM | Your Brain Has Been Taking Notes
Explore how past experiences, social cues, and expectations shape the responses we carry into different rooms.
7:00 PM | Make the Mask
Use words, images, colors, or symbols to explore what people see, what a familiar response protects, and what you might like to choose more often. Artistic talent is unnecessary. Stick figures remain fully acceptable.
7:40 PM | Try Something Different
Choose one practical response to rehearse and use the next time a familiar room brings out a familiar version of you.
