Everyone loves a Martin House Hospice fundraising train, and all the fun and excitement that it brings! It's been a while since one of our famous three-day affairs, so now it's time to put that right with a rather special series of trains in partnership with our good friends at DB Cargo. All profits will be donated to the amazing Martin House Hospice. You can find out more about the hospice at https://www.martinhouse.org.uk
For the main event on Saturday 28th November, we are off to the City of Edinburgh... and beyond!!
If you choose to alight in Edinburgh, you can visit one of the most iconic Christmas Markets in Europe, regularly topping the 'best of' lists. Bustling with the excitement and anticipation of festive glee, the Traditional Markets are a must. With beautifully decorated chalets selling one-of-a-kind gifts and glittering decorations, the smells, tastes and sounds will fill the biggest grinch with Christmas spirit! There will be something to delight everyone as you wander between the huge variety of stalls, bars and food huts. For the thrillseekers, Edinburgh is home to the LNER Big Wheel and the 80m Around the World Starflyer, where you can soar above the markets, getting a glimpse of the world-renowned Edinburgh skyline.
Or why not stay onboard for a more 'enthusiast-oriented' adventure as we explore the numerous freight facilities of the central belt of Scotland, with special help from our rail industry partners.
Onboard the train, our well-stocked Buffet Car will serve a wide range of festive snacks, drinks and light refreshments for our Standard Class and First Class Plus passengers. First Class Plus passengers will enjoy unlimited tea and coffee throughout their journey along with a variety of seasonal treats and nibbles.
But for the most luxurious start to your festive season, join us in Premier Class Dining, where our Travelling Chef Graham and his team will freshly prepare seasonal delights for you to enjoy. On the outward journey, once settled into your comfortable seat, enjoy a glass of bucks fizz, followed by a full Scottish breakfast, accompanied by freshly brewed tea and coffee. In the evening, a glass of champagne will await your return before your festive four-course dinner will be served, followed by a selection of fine Scottish cheeses and biscuits. The journey concludes with a service of coffee and Scottish shortbread, as we bid our fond farewells and look forward to the festive season ahead.
For that extra special touch, Premier Class Dining seating is arranged at tables of two or four, laid with crisp white linen and dressed with fine crockery, fresh flowers, and glassware.
If you enjoy a little tipple, our wonderful real ale, gin and whisky bar will be available throughout the journey, led by our experienced Head Barman Andrew, who will be more than willing to share his tasting notes with you!
And of course Tim and Paul will be running our very popular on-board charity raffle with our usual array of amazing prizes and 'money can't buy' experiences.
A pair of DB Cargo Class 67 Locomotives will haul our special train from Doncaster to Edinburgh and return. Our friends at Eastern Rail Services will provide their excellent Mark 3 set, which benefits from comfortable seats, wide windows, plenty of legroom and those all-important plug sockets for your tech! The Freight Tour will feature a DB Cargo Class 66, DB Cargo Class 67 and with huge thanks to Freightliner there will be a rather rare treat, or two!
All times and routing are indicative until confirmed by Network Rail. Final routing and timings are usually confirmed by Network Rail five days before travel and will be enclosed with your e-ticket.
