What does it take to bring a new play to life?
Join Rising Sun Performance Company for From Research to Rehearsal: The Making of ÉLÉPHANT, an immersive exhibition exploring the artistic journey behind ÉLÉPHANT, a new play by Eva MeiLing Pollitt directed by Akia Squitieri.
This exhibition invites audiences behind the scenes of the creative process, tracing the play's evolution from historical research and early development through workshops, rehearsals, design exploration, and production preparation.
Featuring costumes, photographs, script excerpts, research materials, design concepts, and music, from the play's development, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the many artistic disciplines that contribute to the creation of a theatrical work.
More than an exhibition about a single production, From Research to Rehearsal offers a window into how theatre artists transform ideas, history, collaboration, and lived experience into performance.
Gallery Talk: Page to Stage
As part of the exhibition, members of the creative team will lead a public conversation exploring the collaborative process behind ÉLÉPHANT. Artists will discuss research, writing, directing, design, rehearsal discoveries, and the challenges and joys of developing new work.
Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the director and assistant director of the show.
About ÉLÉPHANT
ÉLÉPHANT is a new play by Eva MeiLing Pollitt that follows a young woman navigating adolescence, family expectations, and personal transformation in nineteenth-century Paris. Drawing inspiration from historical events, the play explores themes of identity, bodily autonomy, resilience, memory, and the complexities of mother-daughter relationships.
