About this Event
A lift tower, a bustling shoe factory, and the people who keep it turning – this meditative, ancestral tale investigates the legacy of industry in Northampton.
In the centre of Northampton there sits a lift tower – a looming structure watching over the town’s residents and its many workers. Tracing the legacy of his family, who worked in the town’s factories, this craft-led documentary from Jack Orton zooms in on the meditative, repetitive and skilled art of shoemaking, and in the process unearths other events and histories. A birth in the local maternity home; a king who loves shoes; and a person determined to ascend.
Jack Orton is a London-based photographer and director originally from Northampton. His work often explores heritage, industry, and craft, taking a quiet, observational approach to the details within everyday life across photography and moving image.
