The beating heart beneath the floorboards. The ringing of the bells. A lost love named Annabel Lee. And a certain raven who has a habit of saying just one word.
This Halloween, enter the strange, dark, funny, and unforgettable world of Edgar Allan Poe when Virginia Stage Company welcomes Core Theatre Ensemble to the Wells Theatre for The Poe Project.
More than a collection of Poe’s greatest hits, The Poe Project is an ever-evolving theatrical experience blending literature, theatre, music, movement, and dance into one haunting evening.
Core Theatre Ensemble weaves together some of Poe’s most famous stories and poems, exploring both the darkness and the unexpected humor found throughout his work.
The production features selections including:
The Imp of the Perverse
The Tell-Tale Heart
The Bells
Annabel Lee
The Raven
Rather than presenting each work separately, Core brings Poe’s words together into a single theatrical journey.
Over the years, The Poe Project has become a cornerstone of Core Theatre Ensemble’s repertory and has traveled far beyond Hampton Roads, with appearances at theatre festivals and forums in Canada, Belgium, Lithuania, Spain, and New York City.
Now it comes to the historic Wells Theatre, just in time for Halloween.
